fast times at The Tank...
wow, it's been several extended stretches without a new entry on this beast! i feel badly because now some people who i would normally give a hard time because of not updating their blogs are well ahead of me...at least sarah is still way behind though.
time has been flying here at the tank as of late...several crazy weekends packed to the gills with activities...tank IV, sarah's 21st bday, and a series of random insanity last weekend. things are starting to settle down a bit now and that's a good thing...i have a lot of research work to do and teaching has also kept me quite busy. it's also a good thing that damon will be taking his prelims this semester, so all this work will keep us occupied and hopefully somewhat productive. james, as usual, will be making several trips to grand rapids (we are working on getting his mail forwarded there, as well as finding a new roommate/turning his current room into a study).
so the three of us watched fast times at ridgemont high this evening...definitely a classic movie. i must say that sean penn's character is one of my favorites along with Mr. Hand...basically because that dynamic duo reminds me and james of our biology of fishes prof from back in 2000 and some slacker who gave a very comical talk on 'climbing fish'...you had to be there, but he may as well have opened with 'aloha dr. fink' to get things started. because damon does not believe in taking naps upon returning to the tank after a day of class/work, he was unable to complete the film with james and myself.
and now just a couple other things:
- this saturday night damon and i found ourselves temporarily marooned at The Tank...we managed to meet all our surrounding neighbors over the course of the evening. the lady (across the street mind you) yelled at us for being too loud while standing in our driveway (across the street)...yeah, just me and damon, and i believe we were talking on the phone. i know i can be pretty loud, but this obnoxious woman (whose dog constantly barks day and night...across the street) had the nerve to tell us the TWO of us were being too loud on a saturday night. weird. oh, and it's not like we live on some quiet residential street...its one of the busiest on the west side of ann arbor.
our other neighbors paid us a visit at 3am...these three people managed to lock themselves out of their apartment. although this seems statistically unlikely (ALL THREE left their keys behind?) we were good hosts and chatted for a while. i explained how they should have installed a huge tank in the basement since that would lead to a loosely attached basement window through which they could (relatively) easily gain entry when being locked out. see 'my personal version of signs' in an early entry of this blog and you can revisit my adventure with this situation.
anyway, i had to finally go to sleep so i left the crew with damon and passed out around 4:15...pretty close to when i went to bed last night.
- i was at panchero's for my second time yesterday (second time for that day, not second time in my course of history) and as the lady was making my burrito, two guys were next to me in line, and one of them said "DUDE! what is that???" and the lady and i explained that it was a burrito. the guy said "that's awesome! i'll have that". i was impressed by his enthusiasm, but the best line came just as i was leaving the line with my burrito to go: "oh man, this is waaaaay better than Big Ten Burrito!" you know it. there is no contest.
- banana bread made with chocolate chips is really good.
- my friend andrea thinks i will only live to the age of 56, and blames me for the recent death of a green sunfish that lived at the tank...which was also named andrea. an investigation is underway.
that's all for now, i will do my best to update more frequently...i know i have said that after the past couple entries, but i promise this time! good night <:><
and now for some random pics...most from the past weekend:
we went to some fish stores on sunday afternoon and one of them had some stunning saltwater setups. here you can see a unicorn tang, it was about 20" long and in a huge coral reef tank.

Michigan basketball is seriously picking up speed and continued their run for the Big Ten Championship with a victory over Wisconsin on Saturday. Damon and I moved 5 minutes into the game and somehow got some awesome seats much closer to the court. great game for sure!
after the game we decided to check out the damage/renovations at the Big House...i swear damon started tearing up at the sight of the stadium.
out late on saturday night...double D's girlfriend gwen and me, guess we have more combos for the 'brother-sister' look alikes, haha.
the crew on saturday night at bab's...this was definitely an entertaining night, damon and i were just glad to be able to get out of the house (story coming later). (L-R) me, carrie, damon; alex, gwen, double D, nate.

...and the VERY irresponsible thing about that store...they were actually selling juvenile barracudas...yeah, barracudas. these things will stay small for a few months and then get huge and generally kill themselves because they are just not meant for captivity. cool fishes though.
