The Belated Big Blue Blog...

brace yourselves; like Michigan Football, it's back...in an epic sort of way...

just like the BCS rankings, you probably thought this beast was never again going to be updated...well there's nothing i can do about that missing ranking update for college football, but i can at least revive this similarly chaotic and seemingly random entity from the depths of mediocrity and hibernation.

i know, i know, it's been ages and most of the excuses i would have used are mentioned in sarah's latest entry (yes, she beat me to the update...however, at least i got mine in in under a MONTH). so there are a few things i'd like to cover as i (in what will likely be an exercise in futility) attempt to bring this pseudo-aquatic construct back up to speed:

first, the blame game:
why has it been so long? of course NONE of it is MY fault...all of the following are in part to blame for the e-dormancy of 'the fish guy':

- NYC is not quite as "Placid"... my 5-hour drive from upstate NY to NJ went surprisingly well, until i got the wrong directions from the clueless hotel front desk guy and ended up going through the holland tunnel and into Manhattan. yup, just me, my civic, and a road atlas from 2002 w/ some tiny diagrams of the city. a lot of you know how i get in traffic/while driving/when agitated...this was NOT fun but made for a good story (one of many from Part II of the NY Road Trip).

- Hilary, Parul, Brenda, Montsine ... meeting up with several friends i had not seen in quite some time over the course of only two days doesn't leave time for much updating. it was great to get together with some of the 2005 gang at various venues throughout the city. ...and it was just as crazy/entertaining as old times!

- scheduling with double & gwen...the A2 trio tore up NYC quite effectively in just two days...we were actually up later than 'the city that never sleeps' on saturday night...it was 530am and we were still looking for stuff to do! ...crazy indians, girls at the club, latenite diners, random fools with stuffed lions who thought they were tigers, the subway system, and some spectacular long islands all contributed to this...

- recovery from the NY Road Trip and work. an entire week of going crazy with social/academic/professional/random activities during the day and staying up almost all night with other social/non-academic/non-professional/random activities took quite the toll. i think i accomplised about 15 minutes of real, actual work the week i got back. i also had to overcome my Panchero's withdrawal...and that took some time too.

- MICHIGAN FOOTBALL...this really needs an entry all to itself, but i don't have that kind of time now, and most of you have stopped reading at this point anyway! i've said it before and i'll say it again...the college football season is the greatest season in all of sports...and it waits/rests/eases up for no one. saturday is the game (in reference to the Michigan game of that particular weekend), later that saturday is watching other games (usually at 'the B'...if you don't know the venue, don't bother talking football in A2), and celebrating the victory over the course of the day (and there have been an impressive SIX so far...big blue is back in a serious way). sunday is used for recovery, perhaps catching Michigan Replay (why the heck to they run it at 10am???), discussing the game, and checking out the updated AP and Coaches Poll rankings.
Monday- we're SUPPOSED to get the BCS rankings starting today...what happened? does ANYONE know? are the computers so advanced now that they need not give the humans a reason? is Agent Smith now calling the shots within collegefootball? i dunno. annoys me.
Tuesday-Thursday - check out ESPN.com, Fox Sports, SI.com, MgoBLUE.com, and (to a lesser extent) the Michigan Daily for updates on our team and the rest of the college football world. discuss the upcoming game with the tankmates and other collegefootball fans. predict how many yards hart will run for, how many TD-catches Manningham & Arrington will make, how many yards the defense will hold the opposition to.
make sure laundry is done and current year's student t-shirt is included. make sure all guests visiting within our party are wearing maize.
take pictures at each game as if it may be the last one you ever see...OR just to document every game since it just NEEDS to be done.

**it should be mentioned, however, that the Detroit Tigers deserve praise for defeating the Yankees and moving on in the playoffs (bring on Oakland!)...i should also mention (as i commented several times on saturday as the updates were broadcast on the scoreboard at the Michigan vs MSU game) that that was by far the best way to watch a baseball game...while one is at a college football game at the Big House!

...as you can see it's all quite a process...it's really hard to put the Michigan football season into words...at least for the inhabitants of The Tank it can be summarized with one: INTENSE.

as you can see, there were many forces at work, which were keeping this blog underwater, with some honorable mentions being:

sarah, rachel, damon, james, andy, rashmi, rakhi, andrea, sidney, norton, tiggy, gar-den II, SNRE social activities, the 86'ers, my advisors, Tank V, other fish students, and OSU...

...who, in reverse order:

...are ranked #1 yet SUCK in general and have the most obnoxious fans imaginable, need to be shown that they are NOT graduating in two years, is finally planned out and gradually being publicized, are entertained by stories from The Tank and want me to write my dissertation solely on gars, throw some crazy parties at 1022, have been attended in substantial number for the first time in 6 years with mostly very positive results, needs to be fed because they are always hungry, moved to kalamazoo to the tune of 3 bills, commands quite a bit of attention after increasing in size by 74% since his may arrival, had a bday and consequent surprise party in ypsi which led to an increase of 328% in EMU-network facebook friends as well as some crazy pictures and 'pong' practice, trapped me into a sushi lunch, managed multiple 100 min+ phone conversations, called me out on the 'priyanka name affinity' and has found a way to schedule weekly ashley's meetings, demanded i attend/participate in 'ice luge 3: the secret of the ooze', claims 'philip pickerel' is alliteration, requires a separate entry to cover effectively, calls at work with seinfeldian-like questions, helps maintain the david time-wasting tradition via blog-'competition'/IM/facebook/ypsi parties/michigan tailgates/430am phonecalls/and conversations about bacon.

there you have it...does that cover all that has happened in just under a month? sort of...but not quite in so much detail. hopefully the pics, which are purposely captionless, add some structure (or complete disorientation) to the story of the time passed.

5 days to Penn State...bring on everything else that happens in between <:><
