watched pot (of ramen) never boils...
well it's official, today was my first independent cooking experience at The Tank...surprised? those of you who know me should not be, but to the rest of you this may come as somewhat of a surprise seeing as i have (more or less) lived here since this past july. my other two roommates have done more cooking than i have, but still very little. we tend to subsist on food we can warm up in the microwave, or more often, food we can pick up or order from an independent food preparing/providing company.
so what was the first dish you may ask? well, unless you're an idiot you probably already guessed that it was ramen...especially since i mentioned it in the main title. yeah, i perfected it at my old apartment, but figured i should go with something 'foolproof' for my first cooking here at the tank. that and i am the last member of the tank to NOT set off the fire alarms due to botched cooking incidents. at least i managed to preserve my perfect record. anyway, it was chicken flavor, for those of you wondering.
and for those of you bigtime number-crunchers/anal OCD record keepers, i have 'cooked' before at this place, but not on my own. i got participation points for making cookies with andrea and brenda at a small get together (andrea insists i am incapable of small get-togethers anymore) earlier in the fall, and let's not forget when liza put me primarily in charge of making a frozen pizza in the oven...but we won't get into that. it wasn't my fault.
so the ramen turned out perfectly. i was thinking about making spaghetti earlier today, and i have been telling everyone i know that i'm going to make it for quite some time, but just never had the motivation (or hunger superceded the time issue and i had to get food more quickly). anyway, i had already had two burritoes today, a small cup of fruit yogurt, some ben & jerry's half baked (brownies & cookie dough) ice cream, and was still hungry around 10pm...so logically i decided to delve into the quick fix that ramen had to offer.
it should be noted that james saw me making this dish and proceeded to tell me that he strains his ramen (whereas i eat it as soup). strain the ramen? my parents used to do this, but now i think it's odd. then again, james is somewhat of a wild card.
on to other material. those super bowl commercials sucked for the most part. there were a few funny ones primarily due to their unexpected slapstick aspects, and i really liked the fedex one with the dinosaurs, but other than that...oh wait, that pespi one with the 'brown & bubbly' rap song was pretty funny too. i really think that's going to catch on. james and i are downloading the song when it comes out on iTunes.
speaking of which, is anyone else REALLY annoyed with the iPod earphones cord? i really enjoy the shuffle and the iPod video, but something has GOT to be done about these cords. i dont know if they are magnetized for extreme annoyance, but mine seem to get caught on anything and everything even remotely projecting into three dimensional space. we came up with an idea for blue-tooth iPod earphones, and i think that is worth looking into.
ok well i need to get to work. i figured i had not updated this with a purely asinine and random entry, so here you go. have a good night; i'm off to either buy the curious george movie soundtrack or make banana pancakes. just kidding. jack johnson annoys me. <:><

quite possibly the most entertaining blog entry I have read from either of the Davids in recent history. ripe with sarcasm, scattered insults, technological foresight, the blunt reality of how overrated "cooking" can be when surrounded by modern day advances such as "delivery" and "pancheros," and even a little glimpse into the cruel but amusing underwater circle of life.
if I ever attempted a foray into the "blogosphere" I would probably get blasted by Amnesty International for trying to peddle new torture tactics to the CIA on par with their efforts of blasting Barney's "I love you" song to brown people in oversea prisons (true story).well if it isnt anymore clear, I'm bored out of my mind back in etown, I'm coming back to MI...tomorrow.
