the 'low-key' evening...
ok well there are three people i blame for events this evening, and this should give a relatively decent explanation as to why they are all at fault.
first off, i blame myself for one of the major events of the post work-day events, and that is why typing this entry is actually quite painful. why you may ask? well before heading out to meet up with christine and some other former students at the brown jug (i was starving by the time we got there, but that goes in the next section) i had to feed the big fishes of the 270 gallon tank. well i use a huge knife to cut up the shrimp (my fishes eat better than i do) for the fishes. i came back upstairs and was talking to both james and damon while washing off the cutting board and the knife. well i don't know how many times i have cleaned these same items (its been a lot) but i must have gotten distracted talking to my roommates because while brushing the big knife my hand slipped off of it and i managed to slice through both my thumb and index finger quite deeply, and frankly, i have not seen that much blood in a long time. yeah, graphic i know, but after several expletives and some quick action by my roommates to get some neosporin and bandages i got things under control. i actually had to sit down because i wasn't feeling so hot...and normally i can stomach anything and everything...i don't know what went wrong. either way i was careless and upset with myself for letting something this stupid happen...and my gosh it hurt like hell.
second award goes to one of my former students chris(tine) who is usually not ever around to hang out but happened to be up for doing so today, and so at 3pm this afternoon she called me talking about hanging out at the Brown Jug...well that was a little early in the day, especially since i was still in the office doing work. after going home and cutting my fingers open and feeding the fishes i was able to round up the troops and head to the BJ for what i was hoping would be some decent food and some iced tea. well i was wrong. our waitress was about as slow as they come, and if we had gone next door to pancheros i would have been a much happier person. i even had to put up with comments by my archnemisis rakhi and some other former students and friends such as 'solomon, you are unusually quiet' or 'solomon, it must have been a pretty rough night last night' or 'would you like a golden gar, i will give you one for free' (ok i made up that last one). either way, i was a bit out of place considering the hunger factor as well as my being self conscious about my right hand looking like edward scissorhands (or whatever he would be if he had bandages instead). either way, the food finally got there and by then i was just not in the mood. it should be noted that it was still a lot of fun to hang out with this crew, especially since it hadn't happened in a while, although some of them did happen to be at the party the previous night (and they propagated the thoughts of people struggling earlier in the day...and that is just plain false).
thirdly i blame my friend sheila, who, after being included in all the emails, etc organizing the events of the past couple weeks finally decides to show up and hang out with me on the 'low-key night'. sheila normally lives in detroit and often does her best to get myself and the rest of the crew out there, but as damon and i consistently stated over the course of the evening...its just too freaking far. i am convinced she actually lives in canada, and there is no way i am traveling over there. either way, the evening was forced to continue, and we ended up going to charley's and then the charley's upstairs, which actually wasnt as bad as i had previously been lead to believe. that's as far as i will go for now, especially since my fingers are about ready to fall off and i would like to at least be in reasonable shape for the big football game tomorrow vs Notre Dame. i will leave you all with pics from charleys showing off our newly acquired armbands which ESPN gameday was giving out on South U (i will point out that they are waaaaay cooler than the frisbee ones that were given out on the diag earlier in the week..or whatever it is that some members of our group wear from time to time, haha).
that's all for now, i am sure i will have more to write tomorrow, but we'll see how the injuries hold up. <:><
