crashing into the mountain...

well as noted in the previous entry, tonight was oscar night, and after a couple years' hiatus from watching the full ceremony, i decided to take a chance and see how much the awards would test my attention span. i was interested in the show primarily to see how john stewart did as host, and of course the montages are always entertaining (the one with all the star wars, jurassic park, lord of the rings, etc etc event pics was definitely a favorite). regardless, it was a good show and impressive that they were able to keep it down to 3 hours and 22 minutes. oh yeah, the AmEx commercial with (and directed by) M. Night Shyamalan was also pretty cool...and was later followed up by an Aishwarya Rai commercial (just had to add that in there).

anyway, i was overall impressed with the winners and how things panned out. of course the biggest surprise (even jack nicholson looked really surprised) was 'Crash' beating out 'Brokeback Mountain'...the latter of which was definitely the frontrunner. i haven't seen brokeback, but i really liked crash and wanted either that or Munich to win in most of the primary awards categories. if you have not seen crash, i highly recommend it. i'm going to go out and buy it sometime this week (probably when i pick up the latest harry potter on tuesday). i have a lot of blank spaces in my dvd racks to fill...because some people came and pillaged the collection before their tropical spring break trip this past weekend...you know who you are (and that means beth and julia)! either way, i liked that the multi-racial and multi-faceted story won out in the end...although if i had been in charge it would have been 'Saw II' ...just kidding...really.

bullets for the rest, since i'm getting tired:

- the categories that normally feature the movies i really like are ones for effects, editing, make-up, and costumes...since they dont give 'real' awards to movies like revenge of the sith, chronicles of narnia, or king kong...the last two of which at least won some awards, which was cool.

- i really want to see capote now, especially after hoffman won...dangit. and there is still match point out there as well...also good night and good luck...i have no time for all of this! i'm behind on the regular movies too, ah well...at least i'm still ahead of sarah, but that hasn't really been much of a competition over the past year.

- march of the freaking penguins won!!! UGH. damon made it a point to point this out to me as i was on the phone during this presentation. those goofy directors walked on stage with plush penguins. this all made me angry. stupid penguins.

- what the heck was up with that weirdo bow on charlize theron's shoulder? i'm sure it ticked off matt dillon since it probably blocked his view throughout most of the night! i was hoping someone would at least untie it so it didnt look so stupid. although it also reminded me of the shoulder mounted weapon that those predator creatures use (see Predator, Predator 2, and Aliens vs Predator).

- J-gar almost tripped...crazy j-gar...when the heck is alias coming back on????

- did you know that the main guy from 'how i met your mother' is in 'not another teen movie'? i didnt realize this until we watched it again this past week. interesting. if you haven't seen that show yet, you are missing out. doogie howser is hilarious.

- oh yeah, 'crash' is also arguably the best dave matthews band album...and DEFINITELY the one with the best cover image...i still have no idea what it is, a movie camera crossed with a peacock???

- spring break is officially over, and the insanity of school continues. this week is already looking quite busy and events are piling up. i'm trying to recall if i actually accomplished any work over this past week, but i'm at a loss. oh well, at least i caught up on sleep. for those of you just beginning your break (i.e. going on cruises from mexico) i'm definitely jealous. in fact, i'm quite jealous of anyone who got to go to a tropical location over break...then again, i KNOW that we were able to see far more fishes than any of you, so it's ok. that and we're officially going to see jerry seinfeld on my bday weekend in april! it's been five years since i've seen him live and so this will definitely be cool. good night and good luck <:><

some more spring break pics:

the size of this aquarium (or even just this viewing window) is hard to explain in words (it contained about 50,000 fishes just in this tank)

the crew with our server/buddy reggie at the hard rock cafe in atlanta (it was one of the only places downtown that was open late)! (L-R) reggie, james, me, gwen, double D, damon
